If you like suspenseful chases, high-concept thrillers or international intrigue, you and I will get along nicely! I'll probably subdivide this genre in the future, but this is what you get for now.
You've seen the movies based on his books--Jurassic Park, Congo, Red Sun Rising and others I'm forgetting--and now it's time to read what all the hype is about. Be prepared for a heavy dose of science and technical jargon in Crichton's thrillers. Expect realism but not always constant action. In a way he's similar to Tom Clancy in detailed explanation of technology and scientific concepts, but I think Crichton is a little faster-paced for the most part. I'll add more of his books later.

Too much aviation jargon for me--I would've like more action instead. Cruising at 35,000 feet above the earth, a commercial jet encounters an accident that leaves three dead, 56 wounded, and the cabin ashambles. What happened? With a multi-billion-dollar company-saving deal on the line, Casey Singleton, the airline's officer in charge of quality assurance, is assigned to determine the cause of the crash before more people die. But someone doesn't want her to find the truth.

A remarkable first novel that has been bought for film by the producers of Die Hard and Lethal Weapon, this story tells of a 12-year-old boy accused of murder, who becomes the target of a nationwide manhunt even as a vicious hit man is closing in on him. Orphaned and alone, Nathan has no one to count on but himself. To stay alive he must exercise all his agility and cleverness. And ironically, he finds his honesty is the best weapon he has as he wins the trust of a radio talkshow host and pleads his case to the nation.
